The summer is a great time for teens to have jobs. They are not in school, and often having something that can help keep them busy, as well as put some money in their pocket and experience on a resume is helpful. Fast foods or restaurants: These are great jobs for learning basic skills like working with people, showing up to work on time, etc. In addition, it gives kids a chance to learn a little bit about how working works, and figure out that they want more for themselves.

1. Consider how it benefits you today as well as in your future. It is great to get a high paying summer job, but ask yourself if it is going to help you increase skills that will later help you get a better job, or find a way to do what you really love.
2. Look for jobs that help you interact with the public. It may sound silly, but things like retail jobs, and pool jobs can be extremely useful because they teach you the invaluable skill of interacting with the population as a whole. This can be a hard thing to do, and often the best way to learn is trial and error. People skills are great to gain.
3. Look for a job that still lets you have fun and be young. Of course you want a job that is going to help you gain life skills and progress in your life, but you do not want a job that is going to leave you exhausted and frustrated all of the time. You can only be young once, and after you move out of your parent’s house, you will need to have a job all of the time, so it is good to enjoy yourself some while you are young. So, pick jobs that can help you with that, either because they provide you free access to something you love (like a pool, movie theater, arcade, etc.), or because they get out early enough or start late enough to still allow you time with friends, etc.
