Even More Great Grad Gift Ideas

Graduation is a celebratory time, and usually it is customary to give the graduate a gift. What you give them will depend on what they are graduating from. However, the following are a few great graduation gift ideas:

Money: Whether someone is graduating from high school, college with an undergraduate degree, or college with an even higher degree, money makes a great gift. Money is a way of helping them out as they transition into the next phase of life after graduation. Graduation is a turning point. It usually means moving on to something bigger and better. Thus, money makes a fantastic gift as it helps smooth the way to those bigger and better things. In addition, money is not always an appropriate gift, but as a graduation gift it is actually fairly traditional. You can make it more fun by tying it into a Hawaiian lei, to be worn around the neck, or folding it into an origami shape, or something similar.

Clothing appropriate for next stage of life: Generally graduation signifies moving to a new level of place in your life. When you graduate from high school you usually go to college, or the military, or some sort of trade school, etc. When you graduate college you usually go to work somewhere, or to another college for a graduate degree. Thus, clothing makes a great graduation gift. If it is someone graduating from high school, you could get them a sweatshirt, or t-shirt of the school they are going to be going to next. If they are graduating from college they may need some nice clothes to interview for jobs in, or to go to work in. They have been in school for several years, and probably don’t have money for a nice interview suit. Thus, a gift like that can be very practical and useful.

Searching for the perfect gift?

Electronics: Graduates often need or could be greatly benefitted by electronics. For example, a high school graduate might really appreciate a gift such as a laptop, external hard drive, or something similar, as it would be very useful for school. A printer, a digital camera, an iPod, and any number of other electronic gifts can be extremely useful and exciting to the graduate. Consider what they are graduating from, and what stage of life they are entering, and choose an electronic that will suit that level.

Trips or vacations: Usually when someone graduates it means that they have been working hard for a long time to make something happen. They have had classes, school work, etc. A nice break can be very useful, and a much appreciated gift. So, reward their hard work with a weekend getaway, or a longer trip or vacation. Many high school graduates will take a trip to Europe or go somewhere for a senior type trip. If you want to give a gift, but not spend a ton, you can contribute to their trip, buy an excursion, etc.
