There are as many parenting methods as there are parents. However, when you are a Christian parent many of those ways do not fit with your morals and values. The following is a set of tips for Christian parenting:

Lead by Example

As Christ led by example, so, too, should you as a parent. When it comes to teaching your children values, morals and attributes, there is no better way to teach them than by example. The method of doing one thing and saying another is usually ineffective as children do what they see their parent’s doing. Hence, you are far more likely to smoke if your parents smoked, divorce if you came from a divorced home or replicate other of your parents’ behaviors. Be the best possible you for yourself and for your children.

Instill Morals

It is very import for every Christian parent to instill morals in their children. From a young age, you need to teach your kids the difference between right and wrong. As you raise them, take advantage of teachable moments in order to show them how to live their morals and lead a life based on good solid values. Discuss family morals and values with your kids. As they grow up are confronted with various situations, help them learn about how their actions affect themselves and other people as they make decision.

Effective Discipline

Parents in general, but more specifically Christian parents, should not allow bad behavior to go unnoticed. When they dispense discipline, it is important that discipline be corrective and instructive but not abusive. That means doing so without demeaning and without anger. While this is easier said than done, as a Christian parent it is your responsibility to help your child become a better person. This means giving them the right tools to make the right choices and letting them know that poor choices have consequences.

Encourage and Affirm Your Children

One of the most important things you can do as a parent, whether or not you are a Christian parent, is to help your child develop a healthy self-esteem. This will help them resist peer pressure and become healthier young people as they grow toward adulthood. Encourage and affirm your child and their worth on a regular basis

Love Unconditionally

Love unconditionally is one of the oldest and best parenting tips available. Your child has to be secure in the knowledge that they are loved and accepted by their parents regardless of choice, appearance, belief or circumstance. They need to know that they can come to you about anything and no matter how bad it is, you will still love them.
